My Standards

Because my name goes on each piece, I make sure that each Lackley original is made with the highest standard of craftsmanship in mind. Most modern furniture construction methods compromise the strength and durability of doors, drawers and cases; and materials such as flakeboard exacerbate the problem. In contrast, my handmade furniture is built using the two strongest joints in furniture - the mortise & tenon and the dovetail. And, I use only high-grade, hand-selected solid woods - such as cherry, mahogany, walnut, maple and oak. Building furniture this way takes much more time and skill, but I think the effort is worth it.

My Warranty

While my products will last for generations upon generations, I officially warranty all of my products for 1 year.

My Philosophy

I believe objects made by human hands from natural materials have more intrinsic value than objects built by machines from preprocessed materials. As handmade pieces grow old and worn, we cherish them more. When factory-made pieces start looking rough, we think about purchasing something new. But the time and skill I put into each piece is only part of it. I also spend a lot of time making sure every board I use is of the highest quality. And I give each piece a natural, hand-rubbed finish that will get better over time.

Great wood and skilled work don't mean much, though, without a good design. I spend many hours refining the look of each piece, taking details from historical precedents and modern interpretations to come up with my own designs. Details often change slightly from one piece to the next, as I try to improve each design over time. I think my furniture reflects that design ethic.
